French Proficiency Test for the French Citizenship Application
Candidates for the acquisition of French citizenship through marriage or naturalization.
What is the TCF ANF?
The TCF is a test that reliably ranks the candidate’s results on the European Counsel’s six-level scale (from A1 to C2).
To pass this exam, you must receive a minimal level of B1. Obtaining a B1 or higher is one of the elements required for the French citizenship application, though it in itself does not guarantee acceptance of the application.
When will I get the results?
The results are sent through the mail after a period of 30 days.
Validity of results?
The TCF results are valid for 2 years.
If I fail the test?
You can retake the exam as many times as you need, though there is a minimum wait of 30 days after the last time you took it before you can take it again.
TCF ANF components?
- Listening (30 minutes)
- Speaking (12 minutes)
The following individuals are not required to take this test:
- individuals over 60 years old- Holders of an official diploma issued in a Francophone country after having completed their studies where the language of instruction is French
- Holders of a DELF B1/B2 or a DALF
- Individuals with disabilities (justification to be presented to the Préfecture).
